Booking your Wedding
Appointment Times
Each register office runs its
own appointment system for weddings and you are advised to contact the
Superintendent Registrar of the district in which you wish to marry to
check availability. All offices are open from 10.00 am - 4.00 pm on Saturdays.
Please arrange to arrive with
your guests at least ten minutes before the time of your
marriage. If you or your guests are late, you will disrupt
other weddings and you may have to make a fresh appointment.
If you are unable to attend on the appointed day, please
contact the register office as soon as possible.
Witnesses
You will need to ask two people,
who may be friends or relatives, if they will witness your marriage. They
should be over the age of 16 and must be able to understand the ceremony.
The Ceremony
Immediately before the ceremony
the Registrar will interview you both in private, (you
can be seen separately if you prefer and request so in
advance) to establish the details to be recorded in the
marriage register. Each of will need to give your father’s
full name and occupation.
The Registrar will also collect
the fee from you.
Civil Marriages are conducted
in English. However, if either of the parties to a marriage
is unable to speak or understand English, an interpreter
must be present. The Registrar will be glad to discuss
this with the couple before the wedding day.
If both parties do speak and
understand English but the family and guests do not, they
may still choose to provide an interpreter so that everyone
can understand the whole proceedings.
Staffordshire County Council
Registration Service is working in partnership with Deaflinks
in supporting your communication needs. If you are profoundly
deaf or have hearing problems a qualified interpreter
or lipspeaker can be provided to assist you with your
needs. Please ask the local Register Office for more information.
(Saturdays at all Register Offices by appointment.
All Register Offices have wheelchair access)
